Emilie is from Belgium and studied at ELC Santa Barbara for seven weeks in our Semi-Intensive Course. Emilie began as a homestay only student but had such a wonderful time and made so many friends, she decided to take on classes! What were you surprised to learn about the US or Santa Barbara? Did you experience culture shock?
Yes, because I learned how the people live and I also saw the lifestyle here compared to Belgium. I was very fascinated to see this little town.
What do you miss about your country?
I miss the food and my friends.
What do you do for fun?
I do a lot of things. I am always moving.
What are your hobbies?
I love to run, go swimming every Wednesday, go shopping—especially Zara. That’s my favorite store.
Do you have any tips for people who want to learn English?
You should go to an English-speaking country to learn English and to watch also movies and TV in English.
What is your favorite place in Santa Barbara?
The beach and the main street. I love to spend time there. I slept on the beach and played volleyball all the time.
What are your favorite moments in class at ELC?
To talk with people from other countries, to know about the countries, and to meet so many people in a short time. I made so many friends.
What are your plans after ELC?
Going to school and having fun and enjoying life!
