Studying at English Language Center during our Independence Day, the Fourth of July, is something special. During the Fourth of July Boston hosts a grand, weeklong celebration that consists of barbecues, beaches, fireworks and fun! This year, I wanted to host a traditional Fourth of July BBQ for our students at my home in Jamaica Plain. It was a huge success! Our students were generous enough to contribute to a potluck style barbecue and you can bet the food was plentiful and delicious! Many ELC staff members stopped by the festivities and we were sure to teach or students some good old-fashioned Fourth of July songs. “Proud to be an American” is now in all of our student’s repertoires!
After eating far too many hamburgers and grilled chicken, and way too much pasta salad, and macaroni and cheese, we cooled off by heading down to the festivities at the Charles River! Each year, the Boston Pops Orchestra puts on a magnificent show at the Hatch Shell – Boston’s outdoor amphitheater. The concert is followed by 45 minutes of fireworks that are launched from boats on the river.
Although we’re tired today, the party in Boston doesn’t stop until Sunday evening! There will be plenty of FUNtivities along the waterfront this weekend. The Boston HarborFest continues with a New England clam chowder cook-off contest! Even after eating so much yesterday, I can always be hungry for chowder! As our students are learning during their summer in Boston, nothing beats good food, good friends, and fun in the sun!
Until next time,
