As an ELC student, you will find we have all of the support services in place to make your study in the USA pleasant, effective and worry-free. Whether it is extra assistance with your homework or finding a fitness center for exercising after class, ELC staff and teachers are ready to help!
Students enrolling in a minimum 24-lesson per week course are eligible to receive an I-20 form and may apply for a student visa at any United States visa office. Before the I-20 form is issued by ELC, the following must be received:
(All documents not originally in English must be accompanied by an English translation.)
When the proper documentation, fees, and application form have been received, the I-20 form will be sent.
On your first day of class you should arrive at ELC between 8:30 and 9:00 AM. At this time, you will be tested for placement and will have a personal interview with the Director of Courses. You will then be placed in the appropriate level for each skill area. After completing the placement process, you will be ready to begin class by 11:00 AM. On especially popular start dates, General English students are given a complimentary tour of the city after the placement procedure, and they then begin class on Tuesday morning. An orientation for new students is held during the first week of classes.
At each ELC, teachers provide students with additional academic help, free of charge, during designated study hall hours. The study hall is a special room furnished with reference books and extra study materials. ELC students can bring their homework or questions and receive the focused attention of ELC's highly qualified instructors.
ELC is pleased to offer individual college counseling services to all ELC students interested in continuing their education at an American college or university. ELC has established a growing network of colleges and university throughout the United States including:
ELC Los Angeles and ELC Boston are Official IELTS Test Centers. ELC can help arrange testing at a nearby location for the TOEFL, IELTS and other standardized tests.
All ELC Locations are official testing sites for the University of Cambridge examination series, including the First Certificate of English (FCE) and the Certificate of Advanced English (CAE).
After completing your course at ELC with satisfactory attendance and performance, you will be granted a Certificate of Completion which states the course you participated in, the duration of the course, and the level you attained.
If you wish, you can be met at the airport by an ELC representative (holding a sign with your name and ELC printed on it). The ELC representative will also assist you with your luggage and escort you safely to your dormitory, apartment, residence, hotel or host family.
We recommend that you secure insurance in your home country before coming to the U.S. We can, however, help you to obtain short-term health insurance for the duration of your stay at ELC. This insurance covers both emergency treatment and routine medical care.

Each ELC center publishes a monthly excursion calendar, which you will receive on your first day of classes. Afternoon activities include tours, sporting events, student sports games, movies, and other attractions. Every week, trips and weekend excursions to various points of interest are planned, so you will never lack for fun and exciting things to do outside of class.
All schools offer wireless computer labs for student use. Available before and after classes, as well as during lunch break, the lab provides free internet access and email for all ELC students.
Special arrangements with nearby fitness centers in Los Angeles, Boston, and Santa Barbara allow ELC students to enjoy short-term memberships at discounted rates. These facilities are up-to-date in every way and are excellent places to maintain your preferred level of physical fitness.
Students can request that their I-20 be sent to them by courier. This service, which costs $75, helps ensure that you will receive your I-20 in time to begin your journey to the United States.
