Abdullah is an ELC student born and raised in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He has been here for several weeks and really enjoys living and traveling within the United States. He chose to study English in Los Angeles because he is planning to begin studying at UCLA in the fall semester of 2016. We sat down with Abdullah to ask him some questions about his time here in Los Angeles so far.
No, I have been here several times before and have traveled to many different places.
No, I didn’t experience culture shock. It’s interesting to see how different the people in the US are from the people in Saudi Arabia. This is what I like so much about studying in the US.
I really miss my family and my friends but I have a ton of friends here so it’s not a big problem.
My passion is soccer! I love to play. But I also love to write. I am a published author of four books about sports in Arabic. I also work as a soccer photographer in the Saudi and Asian Champions League. I’m a globetrotter and I love to travel all over the world.
I love Instagram!
I think the most important thing is to be confident. Try to speak as much as possible. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Also practice writing because it’s important but also different from speaking!
My favorite place so far is Hollywood Boulevard, but it might change when I visit more places.
My favorite is Nap Cafe! They have great barbecue. My favorite is the barbecue chicken and rice.
I love Saudi food. My favorite is chicken and rice.
My favorites were conversation classes with Jonathan and the reading and writing classes with Chanel. The classes are a lot of fun!
I’m planning to study at UCLA in the fall semester of 2016. After I am finished studying, I will travel around the world before I go back home to Saudi Arabia.
