Student Spotlight – Audrey Olcott! April 6th, 2017

Swiss student Audrey Olcott is also a quarter American, a quarter Japanese and half German. She is here to study for her Cambridge exam. She has been here for about nine weeks, and Audrey and her classmates will be taking their test this week. She loves to go on adventures and hang out with friends all around Los Angeles. Best of luck to her on her Cambridge exam!

Where were you born and raised?

I was born and raised in Geneva.

Why are you studying English in Los Angeles?

Because I love LA. It is a perfect location. I like the sunny weather, and the people. Everything is really good.

Is this your first time in the US?

No. My first time was last June. It was for the gay pride parade.

What were you surprised to learn about the US or LA? Did you experience culture shock?

I was surprised to find that people in LA are into eating organic food and staying very healthy and fit.

What do you miss about your country?

I miss the quality of the meat. I miss Swiss food and my bed.

What do you do for fun? Hobbies? When you aren’t working, I might find you ____________.

I like to shop and party, walk around and hang out with friends. I like hanging out in Melrose.

Tips for people who want to learn English:

Knowing other languages like French is very helpful because it has many similar words.

Favorite place in LA:

West Hollywood in general

Favorite restaurant in Westwood:

I can’t just pick one, but if i have to pick, it would be Catch LA

Favorite type of food:

Seafood. Asian and Italian

Favorite moment in class at ELC:

I like the teachers. They are really funny. Especially when you surprise teacher Theresa.

Plans after ELC:

I am going back to Switzerland and then I’ll travel to Japan to visit my family and then come back to LA in June.
