ELC Boston
ELC - English Language Center Boston
Student Spotlight – Basha Muhammed Iddris! August 24th, 2016

Basha is our first student from Ghana and here at ELC we are very elated to have him studying with us. Basha is enjoying his first time in Boston. He refers to Boston as a city filled with history, scholars and the best English language center. With his humble demeanor and big smile, I was able to sit down and discuss his experience here at ELC and his future goals. I was surprised to discover that Basha is a doctoral candidate in Arabic. After he leaves ELC, he will be returning back to the University of Madinah in Saudi Arabia to complete the last year of his Ph.D. program. In the future Basha hopes to be an Arabic professor in Ghana. We wish him the best of luck in his future studies!

In terms of your experience at ELC in particular and Boston in general, what do you feel most proud of?

The teachers are amazing. Their teaching methods are great. In terms of Boston, I like all the history that is present in the city.

What has been the best activity you participated in and why?

Attending Harvard with ELC. Harvard is of the best universities in the world, it was a great honor to be able to visit the campus.

What are your hobbies?

I like playing soccer and I like to read. Reading should be a natural hobby for every student!

What is your favorite english word?

Amazing! Whenever I get excited about something, I always say “Amazing”!

What is your favorite American food/place?

McDonalds. I like their chicken nuggets and fries combo.

What would your advice be to an incoming ELC student?

You should always strive to be on time to your classes. I was late once and I missed very important information that was later on a quiz that Friday. In addition, you should participate in as many activities as possible. Through the different activities that are offered at ELC you will be able to discover new things and make connections with other students.

What does the future look like for you?

I plan on graduating with my Ph.D. in Arabic this coming academic year. Next summer I hope to return back to ELC to take TOEFL preparation classes and the TOEFL exam.
In the later future, I hope to be an Arabic professor in my home country (Ghana).
