Elina Vaskova is an ELC Los Angeles student from Russia; more specifically, the city of Kazan in the region of Tatarstan. She has been in LA for a couple months now and really feels like she’s starting to fit in with the locals. She just got her American driver’s license and is all set to explore LA and California! She likes LA so much she’s looking to stay for a while! Why not take a couple minutes to learn a little more about Elina?

Is this your first time in the US?

No, it’s my third time in the USA. I’ve been to LA before, and I really like this city.

What were you surprised to learn about the US or LA?

People are very friendly here. They do not hesitate to give compliments in public places and they smile all the time.

Did you experience culture shock?

No, I didn’t. I can easily get used to different cultural aspects.

What do you miss about your country?

I miss my family and friends.

What do you do for fun? Hobbies?

I like to travel very much, to learn about different cultures. Also I like sports. I go to the gym and sometimes play tennis.

What is your favorite phone application?

Instagram. I like to keep in touch with my friends, especially when they are far from me.

Do you have any tips for people who want to learn English?

Speak English as much as possible, do not be afraid to make mistakes, and try to watch movies in English and read books.

What is your favorite place in LA?

My favorite place is Malibu Beach. It’s very quite and clean.

What is your favorite restaurant in Westwood?

I’m a fan of organic food, so I like to go to Le Pain Quotidien cafe.

What is your favorite type of food?

I like Asian and Italian food.

What are your favorite moments in class at ELC?

Conversation classes with Jonathan and Renata.

What are your plans after ELC?

To study for an MBA.
