Student Spotlight – Elya Lufwa December 5th, 2017

Elya is from Belgium is studying for four months in our Semi-Intensive Plus Course at ELC Los Angeles, and will study for a total of 24 weeks! She has been working hard to perfect her English and taking advantage of her free time to explore the city and soak up that LA sun! Her passion is hip hop dance and she has great opportunities here to pursue it. Check out some more information about Elya below!

Where were you born and raised?

I was born and raised in Brussels, Belgium.

What do you do for fun? What are your hobbies?

I like to go shopping, enjoy with my friends and to dance.

What is your special talent?

I’m a dancer since I was 5 and I think this is my special talent!

What is your profession? What do you like about it?

I’m a student but a semi-professional dancer at the same time. I like how fun it is!

Tell us about your family, do you have kids? Siblings? Pets? Do they live close to you?

I’m an only child but have a big family full of aunts, cousins and uncles.

Why did you choose to study English in Los Angeles? Did you consider other options?

Because LA has nice weather and I prefer the American accent to the British one.

What are all the ways that LA is different than your city/town?

LA is so big compared to my city. Sometimes it doesn’t even look like a city because everything is so far apart!

What do you miss most about your country?

I miss the food so much!

Where have you found the best food from your country in LA?

I haven’t found any place yet where I can grab some Belgian food.

Favorite moment in class at ELC:

I appreciate every moment I get to live at ELC even when I’m tired or feel bad, I still like it because everyone is so nice!

What are some tips you have for people who want to learn English?

If you want to learn it, you can do it! Even though it’s a very hard language, it’s always possible. The only thing is not to give up!

What are your plans after ELC?

I’ll dance a lot for two more months in LA then go back to Belgium to go to university.
