Student Spotlight – Florian Simon! January 13th, 2017

This is Florian’s first time in the United States and he was very excited to explore what all of California and the South West had to offer. He visited many place by taking road trips with his friends to San Francisco, the Grand Canyon, and San Diego. He is now on a trip to Australia and then to Thailand.

Where were you born and raised?

I was born in Anlom, but I was raised in Chimay in Belgium.

Why are you studying English in Los Angeles?

Because I believe it is very important. I graduated from business school, and English is very important. I picked Los Angeles because it is multicultural.

Is this your first time in the US?

Yes it is my first time.

What were you surprised to learn about the US or LA? Did you experience culture shock?

Stereotypes and cliches that you see in movies or TV are REAL. Everything seems possible here.

What do you miss about your country?

The food like mussels and fries and Belgian parties.

What do you do for fun? Hobbies?

Visiting around Los Angeles, taking pictures, and watching movies. I love cinema, like series.

Tips for people who want to learn English:

Speak English with other people as much as possible. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes in English

Favorite place in LA:

I like Griffith Observatory. It is beautiful at night and also in the day.

Favorite type of food:

I don’t have any favorite type of food except maybe, champagne, foie gras, noix de seine and other expensive food.

Favorite moment in class at ELC:

When Jonathan comes in class with his contagious sense of humor
