Student Spotlight – Ignacio Ortego! November 14th, 2016

Ignacio (Nacho) is studying here in Boston for 12 weeks. He comes to ELC from Barcelona, Spain.

In terms of your experience at ELC in particular and Boston in general, what do you feel most proud of?

I am proud of all my progress in English, and that I’ve tried living independently abroad.

What has been the best activity you participated in and why?

I enjoyed my time at the whale watching event. I’d never experienced seeing whales from a boat before. I also watched a Celtics game here in Boston which was one of my favorite activities because I love basketball.

What teacher at ELC made the most impact on you and why?

Teacher Robert has impacted me most. I’ve taken grammar, conversation, business English, and a writing elective with him. I think he has a good teaching style.

Aside from necessities, what one thing could you not go a day without?

Music. A day without music would be very strange.

What are your hobbies?

Lots of Hobbies: I like going out with friends, trying new restaurants and different foods, and traveling. I also enjoy television. My favorite show is Game of Thrones and I’ve read all the books!

What is your favorite American food/place?

Burgers is the best American food I’ve had. I really like Five Guys and Tasty Burger. And Regina Pizzeria for pizzas.

What would your advice be to an incoming ELC student?

Don’t just go all the time with people who speak the same language. And practice reading outside of class, in fact, try to use English as much as possible when you’re out of class and in the city. Also I suggest doing the ELC activities. The events are always good suggestions, and you get to meet other students.

What does the future look like for you?

I took time away from work travel here and study English. At the end of my course, I have to decide if I want to return to my same company or maybe find a new job or career.
