Student Spotlight: Jimmy Barriere! July 20th, 2016

Jimmy Barriere was born and raised in Corsica France. He is studying to be an air controller back home, which is the person who regulates plane landings and take offs. This field requires Intensive studies, so he has been enjoying his freedom! When he returns back home he will be starting school again. So while he is in Santa Barbara he plans on relaxing, making friends, and Exploring California. We connected with Jimmy to learn a little more about him.

Where are you from? Tell us a little about yourself…

I was born in Corsica, which is south of France. I Later moved to France, and began studying to be a air controller.

What is an Air Controller?

I regulate the landings and take offs.

What are your hobbies?

I love playing sports, primarily soccer! I also have been playing guitar for nine years and am started learning to play drums.

Do you have any hidden talents?

I can play guitar behind my back with my eyes closed hahaha.

Did you experience culture shock when you came to the USA?

One thing that really stood out to me was how HUGE everything here is. Like big gallons of milk! Also bus drivers are so friendly.

What do you miss about your country?

Where I live back home is very similar to where I live here, I can see the water. My CAR! Before I came here I got a new car. I didn’t get to drive it very much! So I’m exited to drive it around once I get home

Why did you choose Santa Barbara?

I heard about California when I went to New York with my dad. I was going to go to LA. I’m glad I came here, it’s smaller

What do you like about ELC?

So many fun activities offered! I like not having to plan so much.

What Kind of activities would you like us to include in the calender?

Basketball, soccer, hiking, biking, movie nights, music jam sessions!

What advice would you give prospective students?

Enjoy it! Your time here goes by so fast!
