Student Spotlight – Kathrin Pokorny! August 23rd, 2016

Kathrin Is a joyful mother of 2 from Veil, Switzerland. She felt the need to come and freshen up her English since she is a teacher back home. She loves the small town and the safe feeling Santa Barbara is famous for. She believes this was the perfect place for her, and her family to study!

Where you from? tell us a little bit about yourself.

I am from Veil, a small town in Switzerland. I teach grades 3-6. I am a mother of two wonderful kids! Naeomi is 3 and Jeramy is 6.

What are your hobbies?

Running, meeting people, horse back riding, baking big birthday cakes, dancing, and going on walks with friends.

Do you have any hidden talents/ hobbies?

I love restoring old furniture and making crafts out of drift wood and shells.

Did you experience culture shock when you came to the USA? What are some of the differences?

Everything is SO BIG! Soda refills don’t exist in Switzerland. Also, there is so much open space! I like that it’s not too compacted.

What do you miss about your country?

My friends!!! People are a lot more open and complimentary here, but they are very on the surface with their responses.

Why did you choose Santa Barbara?

Very family friendly, good weather! Very safe! Perfect choice for me and my family!

What do you like about ELC?

Small school, great variety of courses, and well organized.

What advice would you give to prospective students?

Come study in Santa Barbara! It is so cozy!”
