Student Spotlight Linda Peracchi November 28th, 2017

Linda Peracchi is fun and adventurous girl from Thalwil, Switzerland. During her ten weeks at ELC, she became friends with many of the students, often rallying the forces to go to the beach, explore State St, and inviting friends to discover La Brezza to meet people from all over the world. She always had a smile, a look of mischief, and thoughts of wine. We raise our glass to Linda! Read on to learn more about her!

Is this your first time in the US?

Yes. I decided to come in December. Originally, I was going to go to Australia, but when I decided on the US, I began taking action to come.

What were you surprised to learn about the US or Santa Barbara? Did you experience culture shock?

No, not really because I heard a lot about the US. I knew it was different from Switzerland, so it wasn’t shocking.

What do you miss about your country?

The good food and my family, chocolate, and wine.

What do you do for fun?

Going out, shopping on State Street, and going to the beach with friends. We don’t have an ocean in Switzerland, so going to the beach was important. I also went to Sandbar, a Lakers game, Los Angeles, Vegas (baby!), Santa Monica, and Malibu.

What are your hobbies?

Singing, playing soccer, and reading. I tried dancing, but my dad has two left feet.

Do you have any tips for people who want to learn English?

Go out and speak with other people not from the same country. I knew a lot of Swiss people which made it difficult to learn. Read a book in English. Watch Netflix in English.

What is your favorite place in Santa Barbara?

The butterfly beach is so nice. We were there when it was Roman’s last day. It was a very sad day, but a very nice evening. We went to his host family’s home and had a BBQ.

What are your favorite moments in class at ELC?

I had a lot of wonderful moments with different people. It is very difficult to explain. I can only say: I will miss all of you.

What are your plans after ELC?

I will start work in two weeks in the back office of a Swiss bank. I don’t have any more time to travel.
