Where are you from?

I live in Switzerland but my parents are from Croatia. They were both working in Switzerland and they met each other. My mom is a nurse and my dad is an electrician. I have an older brother and a younger brother as well.

What is your profession?

In Switzerland I am a client advisor in a bank. In college I studied banking and finance so this job was using my degree. When I return to Switzerland I hope to look for an opportunity in the area of banking and finance but that’s a bit more engaging and social.

Why are you studying English?

I needed it for my job to improve my ability to speak with customers. I also wanted to learn English for traveling. I am studying at ELC for five months, until the end of September. While I am here I would like to score well on the Cambridge Exam, meet a lot of nice people, have fun, visit different places, and get to know the culture of Americans.

Have you had the chance to travel in the United States?

So far I have visited New York, Florida, Las Vegas, San Diego, and Los Angeles.  Las Vegas was my favorite because it’s so fun and special. On the trip we met a lot of students from other schools here in Santa Barbara. There were students from schools in Los Angeles and San Francisco as well. I met a lot of people and we all had so much fun together. Even though I wasn’t with my friends from home I still had a lot fun being with everyone that I met on the trip.

Where are some of your favorite places to go in Europe?

I have traveled all over in Europe! I have been to England, France, Germany, Spain, Greece, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia, Austria, and Italy. I went traveling with my friends on vacation trips. Once when I traveled to Greece I was on a layover in Spain when my friends and I fell asleep in the airport. We were waiting for our flight to leave but we were very tired. Our flight was about to take off and the airline was looking for us. They called our names on the intercom but we didn’t hear it. They were even driving a cart through the airport searching for us. Finally they were able to find us and woke us up! Luckily we made it on the plane before it took off.

What would you like to do after you finish your course at ELC?

I want to go back to Switzerland to see my family and then I would like to go to South America to learn Spanish. I would like to learn Spanish in either Costa Rica or Panama. I would like to learn Spanish for fun, not for working reasons. I took a course already for one year in Spanish but the course was only one hour per week. I love Spanish because it’s special and a lot of people speak Spanish in America, Europe, and South America.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I would want to go to the Fiji Islands because they have really nice beaches and snorkeling!

What’s your favorite movie?

My favorite movie is a comedy film called The Millers with Jennifer Aniston.
