Student Spotlight: Oscar & Oscar April 13th, 2016

This April we had the pleasure to talk with two cousins who came to Boston together from Mexico, to experience the United States and improve their English skills. One of them named, Oscar, just turned 39. He works in the Marketing Department at Logitech in Mexico.  His job deals with many international companies holding conferences therefore, English proficiency is a mandatory skill to have in his career.  He invited his cousin, also named Oscar, to come along with him to visit Boston, and to get to know America!  Both cousins have always had a big interest in relocating here in their future.  Both students are currently enrolled in the Executive Business English Program at ELC Boston.

In terms of your experience at ELC, and in the city of Boston, what do you feel most proud of?

Oscar & Oscar: We took the Executive English Business class with Robert. We liked his style very much and we improved our business skills and negotiation in English. We feel prepared for what’s next.

What has been the best activity you participated in, and why?

Oscar & Oscar: The Harvard lecture about the Conservation of Apes was the best activity! We went with Teacher Michelle to the lecture. It was well done and the topic was amazing. The speaker was very well prepared and the experience was helpful to see how other people talk and communicate at a professional level.

What teacher at ELC made the most impact on you and why?

Oscar & Oscar: Robert has been our teacher throughout all our journey here. He is such a nice guy. He is very experienced and knows a lot. Also, we like how energetic and friendly he is.

Aside from necessities, what is one thing you could not go a day without?

Oscar (39): I would say maybe my phone because I use it everyday to communicate with everyone.

Oscar (45): I just need myself!

What are your hobbies?

Oscar (39): I love sports; it is definitely one of my passions!

Oscar (45): I love going to the gym. I jog and really enjoy it.

What is your favorite English word?

Oscar & Oscar: Awesome! It is such a fun word. Wicked awesome!

What is your favorite American food/place?

Oscar (45): I am a vegetarian and I love all of the options for Vegan food in Boston.  There is a cool place called “Vegan Thai Food”, it is delicious.

Oscar (39): The American bars are very fun.

What would your advice be to an incoming ELC student?

Oscar & Oscar: They should go to all of the extracurricular activities, especially the Harvard lectures. But mostly, they should talk to people and make some friends and hear other accents.

What does the future look like for you?

Oscar (39): I will continue working and practicing my English.

Oscar (45): I would like come back and live in the US. I will definitely come back and say hi if I do.
