Sarah Hostettler is from Switzerland. She has been studying in the Cambridge program at ELC Los Angeles for two and a half months, and plans to go back to Switzerland in two weeks. Sarah shares why she studies English and her experience in the ELC programs that have helped her improve her English language skills.
I am from Switzerland, from a small town called Lanzenhäusern. The city, Lanzenhäusern, is 30 minutes away from the Swiss capital Bern. Because Lanzenhäusern is a small city, we have a small population size unlike Los Angeles, which is a big city.
I used to work at the office as a secretary for 2.5 years.
I’ve been studying since I was 11 years old. However, it is better to learn a language where it is spoken because in Switzerland we only learned vocab and grammar.
I already had a course at around B2 level at ELC Los Angeles, and now I am studying in CAE preparation. I chose to take the Cambridge course because I want to prepare for my CAE test before leaving America. I want to achieve a high score on the CAE so that I can get a job I want in Switzerland. I think the Cambridge program at ELC is great for students who prepare to take the test. The textbooks that are used in the course are really helpful to practice for the test.
The main reason I am learning English is that I love learning foreign languages. I can speak French and Spanish, and I want to speak English fluently too. Another reason I am learning the language is because I want to get a job where I can use English. I hope I can improve my English a lot by the time I leave the U.S so that when I return to Switzerland, I can find a good job.
