Junior courses at UCLA
Two ways to spend the summer, both at UCLA. Study English in the morning, or swap it for entrepreneurship if your English is already strong. Afternoons, evenings and Sunday excursions are the same for both. Each runs as a full program with dormitory or as a day program.
Junior Semi-Intensive English Course
Twenty lessons a week in small, project-led classes, plus afternoon activities and Sunday excursions.
Junior Entrepreneurship Course
For juniors whose English is already strong. The Entrepreneurship Course is part of the Summer Junior Program: entrepreneurship classes in the morning, then the same afternoon activities, evenings and Sunday excursions as students in the Junior Semi-Intensive English Course. The two-week course ends with students presenting their own business plans.
What students study
ELC staff is dedicated to providing English courses of the highest quality to international students. By employing highly qualified and dedicated instructors and by utilizing a dynamic and comprehensive curriculum, ELC provides the perfect environment for rapid language improvement. Students can choose between two options for their courses. Courses are held between 9:00 AM and 12:30 PM every weekday, and students may choose up to one course per week. Students of all levels may register for the Semi-Intensive English Course; students must be at a high-intermediate level or above to register for the Entrepreneurship Course.
Students studying in our Semi-Intensive English Course will learn the rules of grammar through communicative teaching methods. Through speaking and writing, students will improve their abilities and pronunciation, as well as practice listening to and understanding native speakers. Semi-Intensive students also have the opportunity to choose the Film elective (June 28 to July 23, 2027) or TOEFL preparation (July 26 to August 6, 2027). The TOEFL preparation elective prepares students for the TOEFL test, with strategies for reading, listening, speaking, and writing tasks, weekly mock tests, writing workshops, and individualized feedback.
Students studying in our Entrepreneurship course will combine academic training, games and projects to understand and incorporate concepts of business and leadership skills. At the end of their two-week course students will present their business plans and team projects. This course is for high intermediate and advanced students. Outside the morning classes, Entrepreneurship students follow the same afternoon activity, evening and Sunday excursion schedule as students in the Junior Semi-Intensive English Course.
All ELC teachers are native speakers of American English, each with a university degree and specialized training in Teaching English as a Second Language.
